Bourgogne-Franche-Comté - Holiday homes Nièvre

The Nièvre department is located in a forest and wetland environment and has a number of natural attractions such as the Parc Naturel du Morvan. This park is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers, here you will discover beautiful flora and fauna. The landscapes in Nièvre are very diverse, so there is the wooded and humid Val du Nivernais in the valleys of the rivers Loire and Allier and the region of Bazois, with its clay soils and pastures. The massif of the Morvan is part of the Massif Central, is a little higher than the rest of Nièvre and is mostly wooded.

Holidays in Nièvre

Your cosy house in Nièvre is a good starting point for visiting places, like the Palais Ducal, which is considered the first Loire castle. But the Eglise St-Etienne, the Cathédrale St-Cyr and the Musée Municipal in Nevers are well worth a visit during your holiday in France. A trip to the medieval town of La Charité-sur-Loire is a must. This city is known for the Benedictine monastery Cluny which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. the body of Saint Bernadette rests in a glass reliquary located in the chapel of the former Saint-Gildard convent. A few kilometres from the city is the oak forest of Les Bertranges, inviting you for a leisurely stroll. More to the south of Nevers, you can visit a "pont du canal" with locks, where one of the many canals crosses the river Allier, just before it flows into the river Loire in the "bec d'Allier".

Visiting Nièvre

The department also has many vineyards and wine places like Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire, also known for their famous white wines. But cities such as Vezelay, Avallon and Moulins-Engilbert have a lot to offer. In the old centre of Clamecy you will find historic half-timbered houses and the Saint Martin's church. After a stroll along the banks of the Beuvron river, do go towards the river Yonne to admire the Notre-Dame-de-Bethléem.
